The Maria behind Terra.

Terra means earth. Terra Maria is Maria’s terroir, her personal homage to the island that raised her.

Born and bred in Mykonos, Maria echoes the Cycladic energy in her voice and gestures.

A contemporary Cycladic woman with a generous heart and spirit, both grounded and whimsical, Maria will welcome you like a lifelong friend.

Her space, her earth, her ecosystem, is now your space to inhabit.

Terra Maria has a layered, longstanding, and heart-warming story. Back in 1972, Maria’s grandparents, Maria and Michalis, built the original guesthouse, naming it simply Maria. Her grandmother also ran the bakery ('fournos') steps away from the guestrooms, a bakery so iconic that every Mykonos insider would ritually stop by for their signature 'tyropita'. Maria's open-hearted grandma soon became a quiet legend of Mykonian hospitality, taking good care of everyone, preparing hearty feasts from inside the bakery not only for the hotel guests but also for the passersby. Maria was a carefree, happy girl, always fluttering barefoot around the tiny alley where it all began, an alley that is actually the tiniest dead-end in town, hence the nickname 'psilos' (flea), from which little Maria gained her childhood nickname, 'Psilena', a name that's followed her through the decades. Feel free to ask her the whole story.
